Super Postman Sri Basappa

1907 – 08, a time when letters were the only mode of communication and postman was a harbinger. Sri Basappa, postman in Mysuru Post office was not only a harbinger to Mysoreans, but also epitome of punctuality and sincerity. Neither Scorching heat of summer nor downpour in monsoon stopped him from fulfilling his duties.

He turned the monotonous job of delivering letters into an enterprising one by vivacious conversations at every doorstep and was popular among kids as “Post Mama”. The then king, his highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar immensely praised his work and instructed to install his statue as a token of appreciation.

Cavalryman Sri Bhujanga Rao

Sri Bhujanga Rao was one of the cavalryman in king’s regiment and a remarkable player in polo. His highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar himself was an excellent player and Sri Bhujanga Rao was in king’s team that won many tournaments. Also, his highness was very much impressed by Sri Bhujanga Rao’s “Word of Command” during parades and subsequently, this responsibility was bestowed on him by the king

His talent and caliber as a wonderful player and cavalryman brought him accolades and an instruction from his highness to erect his statue as a token of recognition.
