Nimishamba temple is located about 15 kms from Mysore in Srirangapatna where we find the this temple. The Nimishamba temple is located on the banks of the river Kaveri and is dedicated to the Goddess Parvati, the wife of Shiva and is believed to be an incarnation of her. As the river Kaveri flows, a little higher, above a few steps is the temple frequented by devotees from all over the state.
It is believed that the goddess here has unbelievable powers to make ones desires come true. It is especially famous among the ones considering marriage, it is said that a visit to this shrine and it will take care of all the marriage proposals, especially the ones which have been dragging along for years.
Something unique about the temple is the big brass bell from the ceiling. It is an indicatory signal for the crows saying that food has been laid out for them. This offering to the crows is called the 'bali bhojanam' and the place where it is placed is called the bali peetam.
This temple is decorated with the 7 tier gopuram is adorned by an idol of the Goddess and next to the Goddess is the Lord Siva. During a worship or the 'deeparadhana' , the offering is made to the lord Siva first and then the goddess. Regular puja rituals are done here from the past 50 years and the temple still continues to attract people from far and wide.
